A LITTLE HISTORY ON THE GUEST HOUSE...

Bennett's Creek Guest House was originally built by Mr. Walter Hayes Godwin around 1945 as a feed and grain business he operated until 1947. Some time after closing that business, he re-opened the building as the County Cleaners and W Hayes Godwin Insurance Agency.  The dry cleaners was a full service dry cleaning business and unique in that they would pick up, clean and deliver your laundry right back to your front door!  Mr. Godwin ran his 'dual' businesses from this building until July 1, 1987 when he officially retired and closed the doors.

The property sat empty until purchased by Jack and Denise Owens in May 2007 to be used once again as an insurance office.  Major renovations were made at that time including the addition of an indoor bathroom, kitchenette, two bedrooms and utility room.  The footprint of the building has remained the same.  The wooden floors throughout the house are original and have a few lasting reminders of its former life.  The glass doors in each of the bedrooms are original to the building as well.  Mr. Godwin would probably never believe that the building he built as a feed and grain store is now a cozy and comfortable home...but I think he would approve!
